GUIDE TRAINEE, HISTORICAL MONUMENT – CAPITAL DISTRICT / CALIFORNIA STATE CAPITOL MUSEUM

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. The primary reporting location for this position is the State Capitol Museum located in the California State Capitol building at 1315 10th Street in Sacramento. This position will work under the direction of the Guide II, Historical Monument, Supervisors.

This position receives training, including both on-the-job training and selected reading assignments in the various methods used in interpreting historical sites and objects and in the leading and control of public groups; conducts visitors on guided tours; explains the historical significance of the unit and exhibits to the individuals and groups; protects buildings and exhibits from theft, damage, and vandalism; explains park rules and regulations and maintains order; may assist in the cleanup and maintenance of the monument; may collect fees, keep records, and perform other related clerical tasks. This position will be scheduled between 2-5 days a week, including weekends and holidays.

This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Working Conditions

Ability to bend, stoop, lift, sit and stand for long period of time. Walk distances on uneven surfaces. Good verbal and written communication skills, ability to comprehend job assignments. Lift up to 25 lbs.
