Job Classification: Engineer-Firefighter

The North Bend Fire Department is currently seeking qualified applicants for the Engineer-Firefighter position.

All candidates must complete the FireTEAM exam, the Work Attitude Questionnaire (WAQ), and provide proof of successful completion of a Physical Ability Test through their National Testing Network (NTN) account. Completion of these requirements is necessary to proceed in the hiring process.

Application packets are available in person at North Bend City Hall, 835 California St., North Bend, OR 97459, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or by calling (541) 756-8178. The deadline for submitting application packets is 5:00 p.m. on September 20, 2024.

About North Bend:

North Bend is a city in Coos County, Oregon, with a population of 10,317. Surrounded on three sides by Coos Bay, an S-shaped water inlet and estuary where the Coos River meets Coos Bay, the city is minutes away from the Pacific Ocean beaches and world-class dunes. North Bend was incorporated in 1903, and its fire department, established in 1904, has evolved into a combination of paid and volunteer personnel. The department handles over 2,380 calls annually, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, wildland firefighting, technical rescues, and hazardous material responses. North Bend Fire & Rescue maintains a Class 3 ISO insurance rating.

Mission Statement:
"The mission of the North Bend Fire Department is to provide timely, effective, and efficient emergency response, fire prevention, and fire and life safety public education services."

The department operates on a 48/96 A-B-C schedule. The salary range is $66,772.16 to $77,721.28 per year.

Job Requirements:

Age: 18 or older
US Citizen: Yes
High School Graduate/GED: Yes
Driver's License: Valid Oregon State Class C or ability to obtain within 30 days
English Proficiency: Ability to read and speak English
Vision: Correctable for close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Experience: Preferred
Required Certifications:

DPSST NFPA Firefighter 1
NFPA Pumper Operator
Oregon EMT Certification
AHA Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) card
ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 700, and ICS 800 certifications
Hiring Process:

Applicants must complete the National Testing Network FireTEAM exam, WAQ, and physical ability test by 5:00 p.m. on September 20, 2024, and upload the results to their NTN account. All applicants will be notified regarding the final status of their application. Incomplete application packets will not be considered.

September 20, 2024, 5:00 p.m. PT: Deadline for completion of the National Testing Network requirements and submission of the application packet to the City of North Bend.
September 26, 2024: Assessment Center and Chief's Interview in North Bend, Oregon (selected applicants will be notified of the scheduled time). Veterans' preference will be applied as per Oregon Revised Statute (ORS 408.230).
Disqualifications:

Felony/Criminal Activity: A comprehensive background investigation, including a criminal history check, must be passed.
Driving Record: Must have a valid Oregon Class C Driver's License, with a minimum of three years of driving experience. Must not have any license suspensions or revocations, fewer than three moving violations in the last five years, and no reckless driving or driving under the influence in the last five years.
Drug Use: The manufacture, trafficking, possession, or use of illegal drugs or THC-containing substances, such as marijuana, is prohibited.
