Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sr Industrial Casting Mold Designer will design and create 3D printed sand mold and core designs for use in the foundry industry. Works closely with the Additive Manufacturing group Business Development Director, 3D Modeling Team, and Operations to support customers with mold and core design, quotations, and project management.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Work with customers and the 3D Modeling team to design and develop printed sand molds and cores.
•    Optimizes mold design for efficient production, minimizing defects, and ensuring ease of manufacturing.
•    Assist sales with quotations and pricing.
•    Build Job boxes and work with operations to assure efficiency printer utilization and minimal scrap.
•    Occasional travel to customer locations and trade shows to assist business development and customer satisfaction.
•    Additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

•    Associates Degree or certificate program in manufacturing technology or related field is preferred.
•    6+ years progressive 3D design experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
•    Knowledge of 3D file formats such as .STP, .STL, .3ML, etc.
•    Previous software experience in Autodesk Fusion, Autodesk Netfabb, or Cimatron is preferred, experience with SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Pro/Engineer or equivalent 3D CAM/CAD will be considered.
•    Knowledge of mold making offsets, partings, undercuts, and assemblies
•    Understand standard terminology such as runners, gates, risers, etc.
•    Experience designing gating systems for complex casting parts.
•    Excellent communication and time management skills. Must be able to turn mold and core designs over within required deadlines and collaborate directly with customers for any requested revisions or changes. 
•    May be required to travel to customer locations, manufacturing plants, or tradeshows to assist with projects, issues, and business development.

•    Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk, hear and see.  
•    Regularly/Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  
•    The noise level in the work environment may be high at customer facilities
•    May occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold & heat, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals at customer facilities.
