The Pathology Department at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant.
SUMMARY
The Research Assistant 1 (A) contributes to research investigators by providing research and experimentation support while following established protocols. The Research Assistant 1 (A) performs a clerical role to ensure the smooth operations of office facilities.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Sets up and operates various scientific apparatus and makes minor repairs.
Prepares correspondence and answers phones.
Formulates and maintains bibliographies and completes applications and forms.
Orders laboratory supplies and maintains culture media reagents.
Reviews and edits various materials for publication and prepares publication schedules. Maintains appropriate logs, records, and study notebooks.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Department Specific Functions
The Laboratory for Clinical Bioscience (LCB) is an approved cost center, core laboratory and shared resource facility established in 1996. As part of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) Research Resources, the LCB provides research support to University of Miami investigators and other academic and non-academic institutions. The Research Assistant 1 will report directly to the Manager of the Research Laboratory. The Research Assistant 1 must be able to:
Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safety and quality standards.
Receive study samples and complete relevant requisition forms.
Prepare specimens for testing and analysis.
Prepare shipment of study samples to reference laboratories and active contracts.
Scan and/or data entry of specimen and patient information.
Perform minor instrumentation maintenance and maintain appropriate maintenance logs.
Troubleshoot any specimen related issues.
Replenish test bench supplies as needed.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Responsible for performing reagent and consumable inventory as directed.
Respond to telephone result inquires.
Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested by supervisor.
