The Principal Scientist , Assay Research is responsible for conceptualizing, innovating, and developing advanced, next-generation diagnostics. This role requires a combination of scientific leadership and intellectual curiosity and will provide a unique opportunity to influence and bring multiple technological disciplines to drive innovation. This position is part of the Assay Research & Development organization and will be located at Cepheid HQ in Sunnyvale, CA, onsite. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Provide Scientific Leadership Spearhead innovation in emerging diagnostic solutions while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement; build followership within the broader R&D team and provide mentorship for junior team members Independently devise strategies and experimental/project plans and provide scientific and technical direction for the timely execution of the program while working with the intellectual property department for evaluation of techniques and drafting applications Find difficult but interesting and impactful problems to solve and provide novel solutions that are easily implemented while keeping abreast of emerging technologies in the field and be able to communicate complex concepts to a broad audience Drive Cross-functional Collaborations Collaborate with Bioinformatics/Chemistry/Enzymology/Engineering (incl. Software)/Operations to drive innovation by ensuring rapid prototyping, piloting, as well as requirements-driven product development conducted under design controls. Collaborate with Marketing/Medical/Scientific Affairs to guide research efforts aligned with company initiatives/strategy Be the scientific and technical liaison between Cepheid and collaborators with the opportunity to present at and participate in departmental, business unit and cross-opco meetings/workshops The essential requirements of the job include: Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of related work experience OR Master’s degree in field with 8+ years of related work experience OR Doctoral degree in field with 5+ years of related work experience. Proven track record of leading product development projects from concept to commercialization and under FDA-mandated Design Controls Extensive and wide-ranging expertise in advanced laboratory techniques and data analyses; possess skills/knowledge in handling clinical specimens and ability to, at a minimum, work in BSL-2 environments. The salary range for this role is $176,000 to $230,000 USD annually . This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
