Job Description

EV.Careers is partnering with a leader in sustainable EV charging technology to find a Power Electronics Engineer with deep expertise in high-voltage, high-power electronics. This is a systems-level role where you'll establish and lead failure analysis processes for MW-scale power systems, working directly with customers and cross-functional teams to solve complex technical challenges related to UPS systems, solar inverters, and electric drives.

What Makes This Role Unique:

  • Work on megawatt-scale (500kW-1MW) power systems - significantly more complex than typical power electronics roles
  • 90% technical analysis - not buried in a lab
  • Systems-level thinking required: understand how power electronics and software interact
  • Direct impact on product quality and customer satisfaction across mission-critical infrastructure

Your Responsibilities:

Analysis & Problem-Solving:

  • Perform detailed failure analysis on high-voltage (480V+), high-power (500kW-1MW) electronic systems with similar components to UPS units, solar inverters, and electric drives
  • Conduct root cause analysis on field returns and production units using FMEA, 8D, and RCA methodologies
  • Analyze the interaction between power electronics hardware and embedded software/controls
  • Implement tests to replicate failure modes and validate corrective actions
  • Utilize statistical tools and software to analyze failure data and identify trends

Customer & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Manage customer concerns with 360-degree analysis approach
  • Present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders through detailed reports and presentations
  • Collaborate with R&D, Production, Quality, Logistics, and Procurement teams to implement improvements
  • Coordinate repair and analysis activities across departments to meet deadlines efficiently

Documentation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of failures and analyses
  • Develop repair strategies and continuously improve analysis methods
  • Perform risk assessments to prevent future failures
  • Drive process and product improvements based on field data

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field (This is critical for the technical depth required)
  • 5-10 years of hands-on experience with high-voltage (480V minimum), high-power (500kW-1MW) electronic systems
  • Industry-specific background in ONE OR MORE:
  • UPS systems (Uninterruptible Power Supply)
  • Solar inverters / renewable energy systems
  • Electric drives / motor drives / VFDs
  • DC fast charging
  • Deep technical expertise in power electronics, including experience repairing and analyzing complex equipment
  • Systems-level thinking: Ability to understand and explain power electronics + software/controls interaction
  • Proven experience with failure analysis techniques: FMEA, 8D, Root Cause Analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex technical challenges
  • Excellent communication skills: Must present findings to both technical teams and business stakeholders
  • Customer-facing experience managing technical concerns and field issues
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional environments

What You'll Gain:

  • Work on cutting-edge, MW-scale power systems in sustainable mobility infrastructure
  • Move from component-level to systems-level architecture
  • Escape corporate bureaucracy - mid-size company with direct impact

Benefits:

  • PTO days
  • 10 company-paid holidays
  • Relocation financial assistance if needed
  • Parental leave for all parents, including adoptive parents
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • FSA and HSA healthcare accounts
  • Life and accident insurance
  • Short/long-term disability plans
  • Retirement Savings: Company contributions and matching to your 401(k) plan
  • On-Site Amenities in Charlotte: Ergonomic workstations, on-site gym, and EV charging stations
