The Health & Safety Specialist position is to oversee the development, implementation and management of the site health & safety systems in a proactively manner. Responsible for studying leading & lagging indicators and implementing effective solutions, as needed. Helps to ensure compliance to government regulations, company policies, and promotes continuous improvement. Supports plant operations by educating employees on health & safety, monitors health & safety systems for all personnel working in the facility, and routinely interacts with employees in their work areas.
• Develop site specific training programs required by our company and local/federal regulations as needed.
• Become OSHA 10hour certified trainer – Train Managers, Supervisors.
• Manage incidents and claims from initial injury until closed.
• Work with injured employee and Supervisor to assign adequate duties that work within employee’s. restrictions (if any) for safe and early return to work.
• Understand health & safety risks associated with jobs and provides effective guidance to eliminate risks for potential accidents.
• Hold weekly safety committee meetings to discuss safety issues within the facility.
• Analyze incidents for root cause, severity and frequency.
• Maintain and monitor incident data and make recommendations for prevention.
• Recommend preventive solutions to eliminate hazards.
• Maintain safety boards and/or communication tools up to date with pertinent health & safety information
• Supports the environmental sustainability initiative which helps to prevent costs due to waste, inefficiency, fines or legal matters and potentially increases sales as a good community member.
• Associate’s Degree preferred
• 4-7 Years of experience in a similar role
• Strong analytical, investigative, and organizational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal interactions.
• Ability to build teams throughout all levels and functions of the site with respect, tact and win-win outcomes.
• Decision-making; must be capable of making well-informed decisions in both routine and emergency situations.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are required along with the ability able to communicate with audiences that have a broad range of background and understanding.
• Training & presentation skills.
• Must demonstrate good insight and ability to develop mutual solutions to challenges.
• Able to work and lead in a team environment; live the Ferrero Leadership Principles and bring it to life for others.
• Ability to organize and prioritize.
• Ability to quickly learn site relevant federal and state OSHA, NFPA, ANSI requirements.
• Technical writing skills (policies, procedures, reference manuals, and training materials)
• Computer skills (Microsoft Office/Windows based)
• Reading and comprehension skills/legal & regulatory interpretation
• Initiative to lead continuous improvement efforts.
The base salary range for this position is $65,000- $87,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This range represents the anticipated salary for this position at this time.
