REQUIREMENTS
A. Education:
Associate degree required. Additional education will be recognized.
B. Experience:
3 years related experience
C. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Knowledge of current Windows Operating System based on personal computer application, repair, and maintenance. Ability to read computer screen; communicate effectively over phone; use computer keyboard; lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs. and stand, walk, climb, crouch, kneel or bend for long period. Pre-employment physical exam required. Will be subject to a criminal background check.
II. LINE OF ORGANIZATION
The District Computer Technician receives direction from and reports directly to the District Director of Technical Support Services. Will also coordinate and receive direction from campus leadership when on other campus sites.
III. WORK TO BE PERFORMED
A. Summary Statement:
Provides technical support and services to the Howard College District, as needed. Areas of support include: PC support, network support, Email clients, Linux support, and training. Will serve as primary support for SWCD and Lamesa with backup responsibilities on the Big Spring campus. Position will require travel, office work, and support on Big Spring, SWCD, and Lamesa campuses.
B. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for adhering to all college procedures and policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook at If assistance is needed, contact Human Resources.
2. Maintain satisfactory attendance.
3. Serve as the primary support for SWCD and Lamesa campuses.
4. Backup support and other responsibilities on the Big Spring campus.
5. Responsible for communication and scheduling for support and presence on primary locations during events and requested dates and times by campus leaders.
6. Travel will be required, the ability to drive Howard College vehicles to and from remote sites.
7. Coordinates Helpdesk and Communication traffic for district IT offices.
8. Maintain and repair personal computers and associated equipment.
9. Coordinate purchasing of replacement parts for personal computer repairs.
10. Install and maintain software on personal computers.
11. Maintain administrative computer equipment as requested by the District Director of Technical Support Services.
12. Maintain student computer facilities as requested by faculty.
13. Maintain software library.
14. Assist in training of employees.
15. Maintain and support local area network hardware and software.
16. Assists the Directors of the IT department in future network and other planning operations for the district.
17. Must be able to travel for training and other meetings as required.
18. Provide technical assistance on distance learning and multimedia equipment.
19. Assists with inventory management.
20. Will assist with communication and maintenance of dorm key fobs and other duties to assist students and Student Services staff.
21. Provide technical support to users.
22. Perform other duties as assigned.
This position may require working hours that vary from the stated college schedule due to the requirements of the job.
